Talladega County Damage: Mill Village Area Brett Adair @ 10:16 pm
Below are a few pictures of the storm damage that occurred this evening from a severe storm near the Mignon area of Sylacauga on Pell City Ave. and Twin Street. A church sustained some damage with a visible hole in the roof and water leaking in due to a large tree falling. Eric Parker and myself intercepted the northern end of this storm near Winterboro and measured near 45 mph winds along the outflow along with some small hail. Click the images below for a larger view. All of this was aired LIVE this afternoon on Alabamaweather.org
Severe Storms possible today Kenny Evans @ 10:54 am
The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Alabama under a slight risk for severe storms for this afternoon and evening. The best chance for severe storms will be between noon and 9pm. Currently the SPC has placed south AL under a severe thunder storm watch, effective until 6PM. The threat from any severe storms in Alabama today would be hail to the size of 1.5″ and wind gusts up to 70MPH and deadly lightning. Heavy rainfall will also be an issue as many of these storms will put down 1-2″ inches of rain within a short amount of time, thus flash flooding may become an issue in some areas.
At 1:45PM the storm prediction centers issued a 2nd severe thunderstorm watch for Central Alabama, effective until 8PM.

Here are a few lightning shots from a severe thunderstorm that happened just west of my home on last Monday night. You can see where the shutter is open with vehicle lights passing by in one.
These were all taken with my new Rebel XT.

The obs above indicate a very moist environment at around the 3AM hour. Later this afternoon as diurnal heating processes coupled weak forcing from mesoscale boundaries and a washed out frontal system to the west come into play, scattered to numerous thunderstorms will be possible from 11AM through the evening hours. Some storms may be accompanied with isolated large hail and damaging winds. Expect many significant weather alerts along with a few severe thunderstorm warnings especially east of I-65 this afternoon. The muggy airmass will remain in place for much of the week. Isolated 1-2″ amounts of rainfall can be expected with the stronger storms later today.
